On August 14,
2005 at approximately 3:50 am, Mr. Sanchez was in the backyard of
a residence in the 500 block of S.E. 17th Street along with
several other associates, drinking beer. A gray vehicle
described as being similar to a Ford Taurus station wagon pulled
up to the back yard. Three or four Hispanic males were
inside the car. Witnesses said one of the occupants yelled
out a gang name and then one of the subjects in the car started
firing a pistol. Sanchez was shot and later died at
Southwest Medical Center. A second Hispanic male was shot at
the same time, but survived. The suspects in this case are
believed to be from a rival gang. There is no further
descriptive information on the suspects or vehicle at the present
