About the Oklahoma City
Office of Emergency Management
The City of Oklahoma City Office of
Emergency Management (OKC EM) plans and prepares for emergencies, educates
the public about preparedness, coordinates emergency response and recovery,
and collects and disseminates emergency information.
Oklahoma City Police Sgt. Frank Barnes
is the Emergency Manager for the City of Oklahoma City. The unit is
also staffed by a police officer serving as the Police Liaison, and a fire
fighter serving as the Fire Liaison.
Preparing the City for
Emergencies

Contingency Planning:
Oversees planning efforts for natural and
man-made hazards.

Public-Private
Initiatives: OKC EM works with private business and
non-profit, non-government and faith based organizations to accomplish
preparedness, response, and recovery activities.

Training and
Exercises: OKC EM conducts citywide preparedness
exercises to test plans and response techniques and to identify areas for
improvement.
Coordinating
Emergency Response and Recovery

Incident Monitoring:
OKC EM tracks local and national incidents
affecting the City of Oklahoma City

Field Response:
OKC EM responds to larger incidents to facilitate interagency
communication, coordination, and resource requests, and to ensure agencies
follow the incident command system (ICS).

Regional
Multi-Agency Coordination Center (RMACC): During major
emergencies and disasters, the RMACC is a central point for information coordination,
resource requests, and decision making.

Recovery and
Relief: Following an emergency, OKC EM works with
government agencies and non-profit organizations to provide assistance and
disaster relief.

Public Information:
During an emergency, OKC EM works with the
public information offices of the City of Oklahoma City, the Oklahoma City
Police Department and the Oklahoma City Fire Department to provide
unified, accurate and timely messages to the public.
